Boeing moves its headquarters
New offices in Arlington, but it will keep "significant presence" in Chicago
The US aerospace and defense group Boeing announced in recent hours that it will move its headquarters from Chicago to Arlington, Virginia, where the company also plans to create a research and technological development center near the Pentagon headquarters. The announcement comes at a sensitive time for relations with its customers, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and congressional lawmakers.
"The region makes strategic sense for our global headquarters given its proximity to our customers and stakeholders, and its access to world-class engineering and technical talent", said President and CEO Dave Calhoun.
According to a rumor reported by the British news agency "Reuters", this move would be the result of cost cutting and a new, more practical corporate culture that has raised questions about Boeing's future in Chicago. The company has stated, however, that it will maintain a significant presence at its former headquarters.
