ITA-Lufthansa (2): the Italian Government is satisfied

Giorgetti (Mef): "We have still worked very intensely and hard in recent days"

The approval of the marriage between the airlines Lufthansa and ITA Airways is just around the corner. The green light from the technical office of the European Competition Commission, led by Margrethe Vestager, should arrive within days. The agreement provides that the Italian Ministry of Economy will sell 41% of the airline to the German carrier for 325 million euros.

"The date is set, the spouses and witnesses are summoned, anything can happen, but today I believe we will get married". "In recent days we have still worked very intensely, hard. A wedding is always a good opportunity to be happy. The bride and witnesses have been summoned, but the Don Abbondio of the situation may not even show up", declared the Minister of Economy yesterday and finance, Giancarlo Giorgetti, underlining how the ITA-Lufthansa merger is closer, but that nothing should be taken for granted until July 4th.

Once the privatization of ITA Airways has been approved, over the next few months we will proceed with the appointment of a board of directors composed of five members: three will be Italian (including the president) and two Germans, including the future CEO who could being Joerg Eberhart, former head of Air Dolomiti and today Head of Strategy of the Lufthansa Group.
