Sydney, Australia -The carrier becomes operational in May 2004
Qantas Airways Ltd, Australia's first carrier announced the launching of a new independently-run low-cost domestic carrier on May 2004. The decision was taken to cut off competition from Virgin Blue which now owns 30% of the market.
