UNITED AIRLINES COULD PERISH NEXT YEAR WITHOUT REDUCING COSTS
CHICAGO, James Goodwin, United Airlines' chief executive, said the carrier would go bankrupt next year without a reduction in costs. United has announced plans to lay off 20,000 workers and reduce its schedule by more than 20 percent as it tries to cope with the downturn.
