Blue Origin: NS-31 mission completed

An all-female crew on board

The launch of Blue Origin's eleventh human flight, NS-31, has just concluded, allowing former NASA scientist Aisha Bowe, astrophysicist Amanda Nguyễn, CBS anchor Gayle King, pop star Katy Perry, activist Kerianne Flynn and journalist Lauren Sánchez to see Earth from space (see AVIONEWS ). The liftoff took place today, April 14, from Launch Site One in West Texas at 8:30 am CDT / 13:30 UTC, 15:30 in Italy. This is the first flight with an all-female crew, a very important moment promoted with the desire to make space exploration more inclusive towards greater gender equality. The mission aims to be an encouragement for women to pursue their dreams and work in the field of science following their passions and inclinations, even though this field may still seem very masculine today. There has never been an all-female space mission before, apart from the solo flight of Soviet cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova in 1963.

Among the participants was also Lauren Sánchez , future wife of Jeff Bezos, the owner of the space company that carried out the launch. She was the one who designed the sexy, all-blue space suits worn by the participants.

The booster touchdown occurred after 7 minutes and 30 seconds, while the capsule touchdown occurred after 10 minutes and 28 seconds, slowed down by a system consisting of three parachutes. Extremely emotional minutes not only for the participants, whose audio could be heard during the flight, but also for those who waited for them on the ground, like Oprah Winfrey, in tears. Once they got off the capsule, the six women now officially astronauts, enthusiastic, rejoiced for the experience they had lived. "It was the most incredible experience of my life," commented Kerianne Flynn. For Gayle King, the best moment was when they returned to their seats after floating in zero gravity, and were able to exclaim "what a wonderful world"!.
