Australia. Ferrovial's strategic expansion at Perth Airport

Infrastructure investments and growth for it that offers direct connections to Europe

Ferrovial, a Spanish company known for its role in the transport infrastructure industry, is considering the acquisition of Perth Airport in Australia, after selling its stakes in major British airports such as Heathrow, Aberdeen, Glasgow and Southampton. Industry sources reported by "El Economista" indicate that the company is preparing a proposal for the fourth busiest airport in Australia, the only one with direct connections to Europe. In the last twelve financial months, from July 2023-2024, Perth Airport welcomed more than 16.1 million travellers, marking an increase of 13.6% compared to the previous period. In the first eight months of the current year, growth has maintained a good trend, with an increase of 9.7%, reaching 11.7 million passengers.

The company sees Perth as a particularly attractive investment opportunity, especially at a time when the aviation sector is emerging from the crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. The airport redevelopment project is estimated at more than €2.7 billion and includes plans to expand the terminal, add a new runway, build a hotel and develop two new multi-storey car parks.

The aim of this renovation is to increase passenger handling capacity to 20 million per year by 2030, thus supporting the economic growth of the region and improving international accessibility.
