Fraport, traffic figures in January: decrease at Frankfurt Airport

Total passenger numbers across the Group increase

3.9 million travellers flew via Frankfurt Airport (FRA) in January: this corresponded to a decrease of 3.1 per cent compared to the same month in 2024. The decline was a result of cuts to flight services by the Lufthansa Group, while other airlines increased their services.

Cargo volumes fell by 3.9 percent in January, to 148,321 metric tons. The number of aircraft movements was stable, with a slight 0.4 percent decrease to 30,938 takeoffs and landings. The total maximum takeoff weights were around 2.0 million metric tons. This represented a small reduction of 1.0 percent compared with the same month in 2024.

The international portfolio was mixed. At Ljubljana Airport (LJU) in Slovenia, passenger numbers fell by 3.4 percent. 72,603 passengers used the airport in January 2025. Fraport’s two Brazilian airports, Fortaleza (FOR) and Porto Alegre (POA), recorded a decline of 3.8 percent to 1.1 million passengers. By contrast, Peru’s Lima Airport (LIM) experienced significant growth of 9.2 percent in January, to around 2.2 million passengers. The 14 Greek regional airports were used by a total of 663,752 passengers. This equates to an increase of 3.6 percent. In Bulgaria, the two coastal airports of Burgas (BOJ) and Varna (VAR) saw 79,433 passengers (a 6.8 percent decline). Passenger numbers at Antalya Airport (AYT) on the Turkish Riviera surged by 4.0 percent, to around 1.0 million.

The total number of passengers at all airports actively managed by Fraport increased by 0.7 percent year-on-year to around 9.0 million in January 2025.
