Italian Enac: President Di Palma met Joerg Eberhart, new CEO of ITA

About airline strategies and objectives after merger

ENAC (Italian Civil Aviation Authority) President Pierluigi Di Palma met yesterday the new CEO of ITA Airways, Joerg Eberhart, to discuss the carrier's strategies and objectives in light of the recent merger with Lufthansa which opens up new growth opportunities, strengthening its competitiveness in the global panorama of international aviation.

Di Palma stated: “The ITA Airways–Lufthansa merger represents an important milestone for the country, allowing us to rely on a national reference company that has the ability to create a wide-ranging network to support the growth of the sector, also considering that Rome-Fiumicino airport thus becomes the sixth hub in the entire network of the Lufthansa Group, leader in European aviation.
In the Summer of 2025, it is expected to exceed 200 thousand passengers per day. It is therefore clear that there is a need to create new, modern and cutting-edge infrastructures, capable of supporting the increase in traffic and improving operational efficiency, giving a further opportunity for growth to this important integration of ITA Airways and Lufthansa. My congratulations to Joerg Eberhart for the prestigious assignment and my best wishes for a fruitful work in favor of a solid and competitive future for ITA Airways within the Lufthansa Group, with particular attention to sustainability and intermodality, now essential elements of air mobility”.
