Houston reopens its three airports to aircraft and traffic

The storm that caused the cancellation of hundreds of flights has passed, only in the Texas circuit

"George Bush" International Airport, "William P. Hobby" Airport and "Ellington Airport", all part of the Houston, Texas airport circuit, have reopened this morning. They were closed to air traffic all day yesterday due to a violent snowstorm that hit the region, causing 5 to 10 cm of snow to be recorded on the runways of the airports in question (see AVIONEWS). The management company announced it.

Yesterday, there were nearly 500 cancelled flights at "Bush", and 133 cancellations at "P. Hobby", according to data from "FlightAware".

Together, Houston's airports form one of the largest public airport systems in North America, positioning the facility as an international gateway for passengers and cargo to the South-Central United States and a primary gateway to Latin America. "Bush" and "P. Hobby" are located approximately 23 miles north of downtown Houston and approximately 7 miles south of downtown Houston, respectively. Both are dedicated to scheduled traffic. The third airport, Ellington Airport, approximately 15 miles south of Houston, supports operations by the US Army, a variety of general aviation operators, and NASA, as its site is home to the Nation's tenth licensed commercial spaceport, considered a focal point for aerospace innovation.
