Damascus Airport reopens: Syrian Air plane takes off for Aleppo
The Syrian airport had been closed since December 8, after the ouster of al-Assad - VIDEO
Damascus International Airport has resumed operations after a ten-day interruption, reopening for the moment only to domestic connections, made official by the take-off of a plane of the national airline Syrian Air bound for Aleppo. On board the aircraft were 43 passengers including a large number of international journalists and administrative staff.
The reopening was preceded by a ceremony during which the flag of the Syrian interim government was raised. In addition, an update was noted in the aircraft's livery, which now features a new version of the Syrian flag. The new flag was also placed in the airport's lounge. A tangible sign of the end of the old regime.
The interruption of airport activities was necessary after the events that led to the removal of President Bashar al-Assad last December 8. With the reopening, we are witnessing an attempt to return to normality and stability in the region.
