Problems with Ethiopian B-777/300ER airliner, recently delivered
Reversal of route and safe landing due to technical problem. Perhaps the engine
An Ethiopian Airlines B-777/300ER (registration ET-BBG) passenger aircraft, last Saturday, taking off from Addis Ababa-Bole Airport bound for Dubai, reversed route and landed at the airport of departure due to a problem defined as "technical" by the airline itself: "Ethiopian Airlines flight ET 612 from Addis Ababa to Dubai encountered a technical problem approximately 30 minutes after take-off on 14 December 2024. As a precaution, the aircraft returned to Addis Ababa and landed safely. For safety reasons, all passengers and crew evacuated the aircraft following the standard emergency procedure. The safety and well-being of our passengers and crew remains our top priority. We sincerely apologize to our passengers for the inconvenience caused. We commend our crew for handling the incident in a professional manner. The technical issue is currently under investigation", a note reported it yesterday.
It seems that the aircraft, hangared since 2022 at the Southern California Logistics Airport services hub (which Boeing's AOG also uses), arrived in Addis Ababa on December 9, and entered service on the 12th, or four days ago, two days after the inconvenience, which occurred on the 9th scheduled connection of the aircraft since delivery. Rumors already speak of a fault in one of the General Electric GE90-115B turbofans with which the model is equipped.
