While in the United States a group of senators is asking for an increase in the retirement age of airline pilots, Argentina, with Resolution 516/2024 which updates the Regulation published today by its regulator Anac, Administración Nacional de Aviación Civil, removes the age limits for commercial aviation pilots, that is, a maximum age of 60 years for flights with a single pilot and 65 years for flights with two pilots (see Resolution).

A measure that rides the now generalized trend of various countries, aimed at increasing the age limit of pilot license holders in commercial air transport operations, both on national and international flights. Both on connections with a single pilot, or with pilot and co-pilot, subject to suitable psycho-physical conditions and other requirements of knowledge, experience and competence, requested by the Authority.

The age limit in these cases is in fact based on physical and mental health considerations, as well as on the stringent knowledge, experience and competence requirements established by national civil aviation authorities. "With the advances in medicine in general and given the need for pilots to meet the growing demand of the air transport market - the Resolution states- it is necessary to reassess the age limit at which pilot licence holders can exercise their functions".
