Atr halts development of Stol variant of -42/600S aircraft
It will focus its efforts on further increasing the competitiveness of its current portfolio
Following an extensive market analysis and in light of the persistent tensions in its supply chain, ATR has decided to focus its efforts on further increasing the competitiveness of its current product portfolio. As a result, it will discontinue development of the STOL (Short Take-Off and Landing) variant of the ATR-42/600S aircraft model. "The comprehensive analysis of market conditions, technological advances and future projections show a smaller addressable market for the STOL variant compared to the initial forecast. In Southeast Asia, for example, the number of targeted airports requiring STOL aircraft has decreased significantly, mainly due to runway extensions or the construction of alternative airports nearby, and this same trend is reflected in other key target markets", ATR said in a statement.
In short, this strategic effort will allow ATR to direct its energies towards strengthening existing product lines, advancing technological innovation, and responding more effectively to emerging market demands. This includes further penetration into North America, where the manufacturer is seeking to replace aging fleets of regional jets and enhance regional point-to-point connections.
