Fraport traffic figures in October 2024
5.7 million passengers at Frankfurt Airport
In October 2024, approximately 5.7 million passengers traveled via Frankfurt Airport (FRA), up slightly (by 0.3 percent) from the corresponding month of 2023. During the fall school holidays in the German state of Hesse flights to warm-weather locations were in especially great demand. They included destinations in Greece, the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands. However, passenger volumes were still about 11.6 percent below the corresponding month of 2019.
During the month under review, the total cargo volume at FRA grew by 3.8 percent to 179,809 metric tons. The number of aircraft movements decreased by 2.1 percent to 39,849 takeoffs and landings. Total maximum takeoff weights (or MTOWs) reached roughly 2.5 million metric tons, representing a decline of 1.9 percent from the corresponding month of 2023.
Most of the airports operated by the Fraport Group outside of Germany registered passenger growth in October 2024. The volume at Ljubljana Airport (LJU) in Slovenia grew by 7.3 percent year-on-year to 127,572 travelers. The Brazilian airports of Fortaleza (FOR) and Porto Alegre (POA) recorded a total of 719,929 passengers, down significantly by 33.2 percent. The principal cause of the decline was the shutdown of operations at Porto Alegre between May 3 and October 20 due to severe flooding in that region. Flights resumed at POA on October 21 and are now being gradually ramped up with an initial focus on domestic routes. The passenger figure at Lima Airport (LIM) in Peru surged to roughly 2.2 million, representing a significant increase of 12.7 percent compared to the previous year. Fraport’s 14 Greek regional airports experienced a 9.2 percent increase in demand, with a total passenger volume of around 3.4 million. The Twin Star airports of Burgas (BOJ) and Varna (VAR) in Bulgaria welcomed 156,455 travelers (down 6.5 percent). And on the Turkish Riviera, Antalya Airport (AYT) added 5.0 percent to reach about 4.6 million passengers.
Total passenger numbers across all airports actively managed by Fraport rose by 2.5 percent to about 16.9 million in October 2024.
