Sicily-USA air links: a transatlantic bridge

New horizons for flights from the island

The expansion of direct air connections between Sicily and the United States marks a new era in air mobility between the two territories. Starting next Summer, 13 direct weekly flights to New York from Palermo and Catania will be inaugurated. This innovation is the result of the collaboration between the carriers Neos, Delta and United Airlines. In a meeting held at Palazzo Orleans, the regional councilor for Infrastructure and Transport, Alessandro Aricò, discussed it with Matteo Curcio, vicepresident of Delta Air Lines for Europe, Africa and India, delving into the expansion strategies of the American operator and the developments planned for Sicily.

The new schedule sees Delta Air Lines significantly increase its offering, introducing seven new flights from Catania, which add to the other connections, reaching a total of 13 between the two Sicilian cities. The councilor highlighted how this represents "a notable success" for the region, recognizing the attractiveness of Sicily and the cultural and economic bridge with the large community of Sicilian descendants in the USA. Furthermore, Neos is ready to increase from two to three weekly flights from Palermo's "Falcone e Borsellino" airport to NY's "JFK", while United Airlines will connect Palermo to Newark, one of New York's most important airports, with three weekly connections. Finally, Delta has confirmed a daily service from Catania to NY, further consolidating the island's presence in the international air network.

These new routes will not only improve travel options between Sicily and the USA but will also stimulate tourism and economic development in the entire region.
