Internal crisis and legality: turbulence in ITA
Tensions and accusations shake the foundations of the airline
Giovanni Naccarato, a member of the board of auditors, resigned about six weeks ago, following internal disputes. Informal sources suggest that the resignation may be related to an alleged agreement between Turicchi and Lazzerini, with consequent legal and financial implications raised by the Court of Auditors. The latter, in fact, could ask Lazzerini to return certain sums received, thus revealing the aforementioned agreement with Turicchi, which would guarantee Lazzerini protection against future disputes.
Faced with the inertia of the board of auditors to formally advance such accusations, a magistrate of the Court of Auditors threatened to examine the minutes of the meetings to identify who had supported the agreement. Faced with this scenario, Naccarato chose to resign. Together with another member, Ciabattoni, he bypassed another colleague, Scandurra, by going to the accounting prosecutor's office to report the entire affair.
The resignation and the complaint were also motivated by the pressure suffered by Turicchi, who allegedly threatened retaliation if Naccarato proceeded with the complaint. In the end, not only did the latter resist the pressure, but he also decided to make every detail public, including Turicchi's attempts at intimidation, thus compromising Scandurra's position, unaware of his colleagues' maneuver and apparently in agreement with Turicchi to quell the issue. Before or after this diatribe, it would seem that Turicchi went to the Ministry of Economy and Finance to ask for a salary increase.
This information, however, is currently under examination and requires further verification by the competent authorities, including ITA and Naccarato himself, so caution is advised in interpreting the facts presented.
