Italian Eurofighter plane crashes

Accident in Australia, except pilot transported by helicopter to hospital

An Italian Air Force (AMI) Eurofighter Typhoon F-2000 plane crashed in recent hours during a military exercise taking place in the Douglas Daly region, Australia. The pilot saved himself by ejecting from the cockpit while the aircraft was destroyed. The accident occurred today, Wednesday 24 July 2024.

According to an initial reconstruction, the aircraft had taken off from Darwin international airport, where a Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) military base is located. The exact causes and dynamics of the accident are being ascertained. The crash site is located halfway between Daly River Airport and Anson Bay, near the Daly River.

Rescuers intervened on site with an Australian Coast Guard AgustaWestland AW-139 (VH-RQY) helicopter, which picked up the pilot and transported him to the Royal Darwin Hospital, where he landed safely at 1:05 pm local (5:05 in Italy).
