Italy. Bologna Airport: "Police officers are under pressure"

Siulp union calls for urgent meeting due to excessive workload

There is an excessive workload weighing on the border Police officers on duty at the "Guglielmo Marconi" international airport in Bologna-Panigale. This was reported by the Italian Union of Police Workers (SIULP). A situation determined by the annual peak in passenger traffic, as well as by the recent strike on Sunday and the IT blockade last Friday which caused long queues and inconvenience.

It is necessary that "efforts are made to bring the work of police officers back to levels of dignity and acceptability and to evaluate the need for an organic increase and initiatives that avoid the repetition of situations that concern public order and safety", we read in the letter signed by the Siulp provincial secretary, Amedeo Landino.

The representatives of the Border Police agents addressed this letter to the prefect, the police commissioner, the director of the Border Police of Emilia-Romagna, Tuscany and Marche and the director of the Bolognese Polaria. They are asked for "an urgent discussion to investigate the working conditions of those who guarantee safety at the airport", despite "the number of passengers in the departure lounge being so high as to make the situation unsustainable and very dangerous for safety and security and for public order".
