Italy. Cagliari airport: passengers enraged by delays
Planes were reported to have taken off and arrived almost five hours after the scheduled time
Passengers also sat on the floor waiting for their plane to take off or arrive at the Italian "Mario Mameli" airport in Cagliari and reported delays of almost five hours. It is what we read on the timetables where numerous flights, in particular those operated by the low-cost airline Ryanair and ITA Airways, showed waits ranging from a few tens of minutes to one, two, three and even four hours. Disruptions began late in the morning and continued until the evening.
This was reported by the Italian newspaper "la Repubblica", which published a video showing the inconveniences recorded yesterday evening, Monday 22 July 2024, in the Sardinian airport. The images show the crowd of travellers near the shops and in front of the departure gates for Rome, Bologna, Milan, Pisa and other foreign destinations. The monitoring of flights carried out by the specialized website "Flightstats" testifies to the chaos that raged last night in the Sardinian airport.
These are just some examples: the Cagliari-Verona flight operated by Ryanair (flight FR 321) was supposed to leave at 4.45pm but took off at 9:25pm, four hours and 40 minutes late; the Rome-Cagliari operated by ITA Aiways (flight AZ 1595) was supposed to take off at 7:30pm but left at 9:51pm, accumulating two hours and 14 minutes of delay. Things went better on the Ryanair Cagliari-Porto flights (flight FR 5264) which were delayed 24 minutes and on the Nuremberg-Cagliari (FR 7904) which was delayed 90 minutes.
