There is a hint of Italy in the H-160 helicopter
Among the first in the world to use electromechanical actuators to replace hydraulic systems
There is a hint of Umbria in the new H-160 helicopter produced by the European consortium Airbus Helicopters. One of these aircraft landed in Foligno, Italy, in the last few hours. In fact, it is the first rotary wing aircfraft in the world that uses electromechanical actuators, made by the Italian company Umbragroup of Foligno, to replace traditional hydraulic systems. The collaboration between Italy and France which began in 2018 is confirmed as fruitful.
"Our technology is helping to transform the world of aviation in the safest and most sustainable way. We are proud of the contribution we are making to the aerospace industry and we are grateful to Airbus for the trust it has placed in us over these years of profitable and stimulating partnership", declared Matteo Notarangelo, CEO of the Umbrian company.
The Landing Gears controls for the H-160 helicopter have received Safety-Critical certification from the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). This electric technology, in addition to reducing the weight and consumption of the aircraft, saves on hydraulic maintenance and avoids the use of polluting products and fluids.
