Italy. Salerno airport operational in 24 hours

Borgomeo (Gesac): "It will not be an auxiliary port of Naples"

In less than 24 hours the "Costa d'Amalfi" Italian airport of Salerno will reopen and will return to operation after years of closure. In fact, a flight to the French airport of Nantes-Atlantique is scheduled for Thursday 11 July 2024, which will be operated by the Spanish low-cost airline Volotea. According to some rumors, the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport (MIT), Matteo Salvini, will be present at the inauguration.

The airport "rebalances" the offer of flights in Campania, where only the "Ugo Niutta" airport of Naples-Capodichino is present, "and allows us to make a more consistent and qualified offer of connections. In Salerno there is also an additional demand that comes from western Basilicata and northern Calabria", explains Carlo Borgomeo, president of the airport management company Gesac and Assaeroporti, interviewed by the newspaper "il Mattino".

"The Campania network with Naples and Salerno -concludes the president of Gesac- is certainly able to satisfy the growing demand". This means that "Salerno will not be an auxiliary airport to Capodichino", but plays its own role in the Campania airport network. This "means that both airports are enhanced in an integrated offer. This is very important".
