Italy. Salerno Airport ten days before reopening

Work continues to strengthen services and expand the airport

Ten days: the countdown begins amid smiles for the imminent reopening of the Italian "Costa d'Amalfi" airport of Salerno-Pontecagnano (Campania Region). On 11 July 2024 the infrastructure will be back active with a flight operated by the Spanish low-cost airline Volotea towards the French stopover of Nantes-Atlantique. After years of closure the airport is ready to restart. In the meantime, work continues to strengthen services and expand the airport.

The technical tests of the take-off and landing runway were successfully carried out in March 2024. Then in May the municipal council ordered the activation (from 1 July to 31 October 2024) of an experimental taxi transport service which will allow passengers to reach the airport starting from the center of Salerno, and vice-versa. Everything is ready to allow low-cost airlines easyJet, Volotea and Ryanair to operate at their best.

Agreements have been signed for taxi rides also from the municipality of Agropoli and dedicated bus connections from Cilento. In particular, some private bus companies (Curcio and Antonio Palmentieri) have signed a contract to activate the FlyBusLink service on the Naples-Salerno route starting from 11 July. Meanwhile, behind the scenes we are already thinking about expanding the airport, as foreseen by the project created by the Atelier(s) Alfonso Femia architecture studio.
