Italy: 500,000 Euros to strengthen firefighting
Few helicopters and Canadair, Sardinian Council bets on Fire Brigade
The Sardinia Region in Italy allocates a further 500,000 Euros to make up for the lack of aircraft in the 2024 firefighting campaign: in short, few helicopters and planes. The seven rotary-wing aircraft and the three Canadairs are not enough (there were 11 in 2023) and so the council led by Alessandra Todde strengthens collaboration with the firefighters.
"It is intended to increase the resources available for the agreement with the Italian Fire Brigade in the firefighting campaign by 500,000 Euros, so that it can provide support to the regional structures deployed in the fight against fires, similar to that of 2023, the year in which the allocation final amount was equal to Euro 1,500,000", on read in the measure approved yesterday by the Sardinian regional council.
The document reiterates that this is an "indispensable move also in light of the reduction in the deployment of regional air assets, only partially compensated by the greater contribution of the national fleet" of Canadair. So much so that a few days ago the General Directorate of National Civil Protection had sent two additional AS-332 "Super Puma" helicopters (with a capacity of 4000 liters) to Sardinia for the next three years.
