Italy. Grottaglie: work drops on Boeing fuselages

Fim Cisl: "Possible 4-month redundancy fund and worker mobility until 2025"

Repercussions in Italy due to problems regarding the safety of planes made by the US Boeing Group. The slowdown in aircraft production imposed by the American Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has led to a "vacuum" in the Grottaglie (Taranto) factory, where the Italian Leonardo Group is receiving fewer orders for the construction of fuselages for the B-787 aircraft .

"The tools identified are the use of intra-divisional mobility for a period that also extends to the whole of 2025 and the opening of a redundancy fund lasting a maximum of four months", states the Italian Fim Cisl union, led by Roberto Benaglia, who underlines the possible temporary movement of personnel from the Taranto plant to other Leonardo factories.

"The job gap -continues the Italian union- should be limited until December 31, 2024. From what is foreseen in the program communicated by Boeing, a recovery is expected in 7 installments (the number of pairs of fuselages produced per month, Ed.) starting from January 2025 with a production increase that should lead to 10 installments at the end of 2025". In Grottaglie, a thousand people produced two sections of the fuselage of the B-787, then shipped to the United States.
