Italy. Catania Airport versus low-cost airlines
Italian Transport Authority starts proceedings at the request of Ryanair and easyJet
The lack of agreement on the proposed revision of airport fees for the period 2024-2027 between the low-cost airlines Ryanair and easyJet and the Catania airport company (Sac), which controls the "Vincenzo Bellini" airport of Fontanarossa, is on the table of the Italian Transport Regulatory Authority (Art, Autorità di regolazione dei trasporti).
"Until the final decision on the disputes in question, the Sac management company will continue to apply the level of rights currently in force", on read in Art resolution number 86/2024 of 21 June 2024. The initiation of the procedure by the The Transport Regulatory Authority on the update of airport tariffs took place on 8 March 2024.
In recent days Art has specified that "it has ordered the initiation of the procedure relating to the request for resolution of the dispute presented on 14 June 2024 by Ryanair Dac, and the joining of this procedure, for joint treatment, with the procedure relating to the request for resolution of the dispute presented by easyJet Company Limited, already initiated with resolution no. 82/2024 of 6 June 2024, the terms of which remain unchanged".
