Putin will visit North Korea
Official trip expected in the second half of June
Vladimir Putin will meet Kim Jong Un. The Russian president will be on an official visit to North Korea in the coming weeks, where he will meet his Asian counterpart. We will talk about energy, military cooperation, international payments and education. Among the countries visited by the head of the Kremlin there will also be Vietnam, whose trip is scheduled for 19 and 20 June 2024, but had not yet been confirmed.
The Russian newspaper "Vedomosti" reported this today, citing a Russian government official as its source. Putin's official visit to Pyongyang is being "carefully prepared", the Russian ambassador to North Korea, Alexander Matsegora, confirmed to the newspaper. However, the agenda of the government meetings in Vietnam is still under discussion: among the priorities there would be trade and bank payments.
Putin's previous trip to North Korea, his first and only, dates back to 2000, the first year of his presidency. For his part, last September the North Korean leader Kim Jong Un travelled to Russia, meeting Putin and visiting the Russian space center Vostochny Cosmodrome, in the Russian Far East. Cooperation on the construction of satellites emerged from that face-to-face meeting.
