Turkish Airlines will ground 45 planes
It's a PW1100G engine problems effect
At least 45 planes will be grounded in 2024 due to Pratt & Whitney PW1100G engine problems. It cwas announced by the management of the flag carrier Turkish Airlines, which foresees operational limitations on part of its fleet of A-320neo family aircraft. This is an inconvenience that according to forecasts will last the whole year and could continue until 2025.
"Our current estimate is that this number will rise to 40 by the end of 2024 and remain at that level for the rest of the year and part of 2025". "We expect around 40-45 aircraft to be grounded". "We have added around 15-20 narrow-body aircraft, some under negotiation, to compensate for this loss of capacity", explained the airline's chief financial officer, Murat Seker.
Turkish Airlines currently has 20 (out of 58) A-321/200NX aircraft and five (out of nine) A-320/200N planes out of service due to mandatory engine inspections, after the discovery of contaminants in the metal powder used in production of the PW1100G engines.
