Japan sanctions Russian airline
Cargo operator carrying out large transports
Ten Russian operators and entrepreneurs sanctioned by Japan. Among theme there is also the operator TTF Air, specialized in the defence and cargo air transport sectors, based in the city of Bryansk. The commercial blockade against this company was ordered by Tokyo due to the movement of armaments from North Korea to Russia, which occurred with the use of cargo aircraft.
TTF Air operates a fleet of 13 aircraft, including two Antonov An-124, five An-124/100 and six Ilyushin Il-76MD aircraft. The sanctions imposed against the company include freezing of assets, restrictions on payments and capital transactions. Japanese law, which is very restrictive on currency exchange and foreign trade, facilitated the imposition of sanctions.
The Russian company, led by general director Vladimir Mikheychik, also operates on behalf of the Russian Air Force under the name 224th Flight Unit State Airlines Joint Stock Company. Ukraine, France and the United States had already blacklisted it in 2023 on charges of transporting ballistic missiles used in Ukraine.
