Chinese aircraft manufacturer bets to Saudi Arabia

Comac wants to expand its passenger aircraft sales business

State-owned manufacturer Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (Comac) is eyeing Saudi Arabia's aviation market as a launchpad for its international ambitions. This is a move that confirms the strong developing ties between the two major economies of Asia and the Middle East.

"We expect to improve global connectivity and diversity by contributing to the development of Saudi Arabia's air transport", said the president of the Chinese aircraft manufacturer, Dongfeng He in recent hours, visiting Saudi Arabia for the first time, after having welcomed a Saudi delegation to the company's facilities in Shanghai in February 2024.

The goal of the Chinese state company is to sell its planes abroad, entering the passenger aircraft market, currently dominated by Western manufacturers such as Boeing and Airbus. At the moment, according to various aviation experts, Comac is in early stages of negotiations, due to the lack of valid certifications in the United States and the European Union. This made it necessary to gain accreditation first and foremost on an international level.
