Iran incident: President Raisi dead
He was on board a crashed helicopter
The President of Iran Ebrahim Raisi died in a helicopter accident in recent hours. The accident was apparently caused by poor weather conditions. According to a first reconstruction of the accident, the Bell 412 helicopter (registration 6-9221) of the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force was part of a convoy composed of two other aircraft that took off from the province of East Azerbaijan. Suddenly, while flying over the Dzmar forest, the rotcraft crashed on the ground, between the villages of Uzi and Pir Dawood.
The official announcement of President Raisi's death was made by Iranian state TV. Statements that confirm the rumors leaked immediately after the plane crash. Indeed, the head of the Iranian Red Crescent Society, Pir Hossein Kolivand, had reported to the "Irib" television broadcaster that "when the location of the crashed helicopter was discovered, no trace of alive passengers was found".
On board together with him were his bodyguard General Mehdi Mousavi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, East Azarbaijan Province Governor Malek Rahmati, Friday prayer leader Tabriz Mohammadali Al-Hashem. Among the victims were also a member of the Revolutionary Guards, the pilot, the co-pilot and a flight engineer.
