Italy. Sardinia: here is the fire prevention plan
Seven helicopters and two planes and other national service aircraft
Seven helicopters, three Canadair planes, other aircraft in reinforcement from Rome and 6,950 fire extinguishers. These are the numbers of the Italian firefighting machine made available by the Sardinia Region for the 2024 season. The anticipations of recent months have been confirmed, which spoke of a reduction in fixed wing vehicles compared to last year, when there were 11 available.
"Regarding helicopters especially, I believe this is the time to move forward and address the problem rather than follow the controversy. So we are all fighting to get the maximum results and I would say this is my answer", is the comment of the regional councilor for the environment, Rosanna Laconi, who together with the head of the regional forestry corps, Fabio Improveti, and the director of civil protection, Aldo Derudas, illustrated the plan.
This is the 2024 firefighting machine in detail: five light helicopters equipped with tanks with a capacity of 900 liters of water, two 4000 liter "Super Puma" heavy aircraft. 1050 Forestry agents, 1300 fire extinguishers from the Forestas agency, 800 firefighters, 1800 barracelli, around 2000 volunteers and 2650 lookouts and various auxiliaries.
