USA: Colorado purchases firefighting helicopters

About 6.9 million dollars invested to create national fleet

The US State of Colorado has started the first purchase procedure for firefighting aircraft. In detail, the local government is acquiring two Bell 205 helicopters. This is a move that aims to provide the State with its own fleet of aircraft for fighting fires, after having shared the use of it with California and New Mexico for decades of some means for this operation.

"Our state has typically relied on an interstate fleet of firefighting aircraft, while only on occasion have we leased helicopters for short-term management", Colorado governor Jared Polis said in a press conference.

Colorado is thus preparing for the hot season, the most favorable for the development of fires. In detail, the American state is investing 6.9 million dollars for the purchase of various vehicles: two helicopters, trucks for refueling aircraft, components and equipment to be allocated to the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention. The first of two "Blackhawk" firefighting helicopters will also join the fleet in the coming months.
