Israel war: what the peace proposal provides

Hamas must express its opinion on the ceasefire and hostage release plan

An initial three-week truce with the immediate release of at least 20 hostages. This is what is foreseen, according to press rumors, in the proposal for a ceasefire in Gaza put in writing during the peace talks in Egypt. On the one hand, representatives of the Israeli government collaborated, which however has not yet accepted the plan, and on the other hand, representatives of Hamas, the political-military group that manages the Strip.

It was reported by the US newspaper "Wall Street Journal". The proposal would involve two phases: the first establish the release of at least 20 Israeli hostages over three weeks in exchange for an unspecified number of Palestinian prisoners. If successful, it would enter the second phase, which includes a 10-week ceasefire during which Hamas and Israel would seek agreement on further hostage releases and an extended pause in fighting, which could last up to a year.

The Hamas delegation, which left Cairo today, will return to Egypt next Wednesday with a written response on the peace proposal. It was reported in recent hours by various international media, including the Egyptian "al-Qahera news" satellite channel and the Israeli "Haaretz" newspaper.
