The Franco-Dutch group Air France-KLM maintains a high interest in the acquisition of the Portuguese national carrier Transportes Aéreos Portugueses (TAP). And this despite the political instability that surrounds the procedure. Recently, in fact, the president of the country, Rebelo de Sousa, had not signed the government decree that would have started the privatization of the airline, blocking it and sending the text back to parliament.

It was reported by the economic news agency "Bloomberg", which cites sources close to the Franco-Dutch group, according to which: "The company remains very interested in the Tap privatization project and we are waiting for the next steps". 

President De Sousa had blocked the procedure for a twofold reason: first of all due to doubts about the role of the State within the airline's management company; secondly to await the outcome of the parliamentary elections, which on 2 April 2024 gave rise to the formation of a new centre-right government, led by Prime Minister Luís Montenegro, who however does not have a majority in Parliament.

The procedure was blocked after the resignation of former Prime Minister António Costa. Then, on April 2, the new executive confirmed that he would like to sell the airline. However, he did not specify whether he intends to sell 100% of Tap, as announced during the election campaign, or just a share of the national airline, as the previous government intended to do.
