Black weekend for transport in Germany. A two-day strike has been proclaimed in the airline sector. The Verdi union has called a stoppage from work from 4:00 am on Thursday 7th to 7:10 am on Saturday 9th March. The mobilization involves the ground staff of the German Lufthansa Aviation Group. Hundreds of canceled and delayed flights are expected, impacting around 200,000 passengers. 

The workers' representatives are asking for +12.5% more salary (around 500 Euros per month) and a bonus of 3000 Euros for one year to compensate for high inflation. Lufthansa responded by offering salary increases of +10% over 28 months. Proposal rejected by the Verdi union, which in fact called for a new mobilization. The next round of talks is scheduled for March 13 and 14. 

There have already been two waves of strikes recently. Last February 20, the union had called for a 24-hour mobilization of the ground staff of the Lufthansa airline, with repercussions on hundreds of thousands of passengers. Most air connections had been canceled at seven German airports, causing disruption to around 100,000 passengers.
