Air strike in Germany
Lufthansa cancels 80-90% of flights at Frankfurt airport alone
Another red flag day for air transport in Germany. At Frankfurt airport, the national airline Lufthansa (and its subsidiary Air Dolomiti) cancelled 80-90% of the initially scheduled flights, that is 600 departures and arrivals. In Munich, over 400 flight connections between takeoffs and landings were cancelled. It is the outcome of the 24-hour strike of the airline's ground staff, who are folding their arms today.
It was reported by the German press agency "DPA". All flights departing from Berlin and Hamburg were also cancelled, as were most domestic air connections to Duesseldorf. According to communications from the Verdi union, participation in the mobilization should be around 25,000 people.
The workers' representatives are asking for a salary increase of 12.5% over the course of a year, or at least 500 euros more per month, in addition to the provision of special bonuses to stem the impact of inflation. Improvements to be applied to all employees, including check-in, aircraft handling, maintenance and cargo transport staff.
