Dutch airports below pre-covid levels

Only two out of five stopovers recorded performances like in 2019

Over 71 million passengers passed through the five Dutch airports during 2023. It is a performance that marks a +16% compared to the previous year, but remains below the volume of travellers welcomed in 2019 (over 81 million), the period before the pandemic. This is the result of monitoring carried out by the National Statistics Netherlands (Cbs, Centraal Bureau voor de Statistiek).

Rotterdam-The Hague airports (2.2 million transits) and Eindhoven (6.9 million passengers) were the only two airports in the entire Netherlands that handled more passengers in 2023 than in 2019. Eindhoven thus confirming its second place in the Country in terms of number of travelers passing through and aircraft movements.

The ranking is always led by Amsterdam-Schiphol airport: in 2023 it recorded 62 million customers and almost 442,000 departing and arriving aircraft. A performance that marks +18% of people compared to 2022, but around -14% less than 2019. Over half of the Dutch passengers traveled in Europe, mainly in Spain and the United Kingdom, while the United States confirm the preferred non-EU destination.
