Lithuania: plane ends up off runway
Among piles of snow and mud, no one was injured, just a lot of fear
An A-320/232 aircraft (registration LY-NVL) operated by the Lithuanian company Avion Express ran off the runway in recent days at Vilnius international airport. The inconvenience was caused by a problem during landing at the Lithuanian airport. When it touched the asphalt, perhaps due to the presence of sleet on the runway, the aircraft was unable to maintain the line, ending up among piles of snow and mud.
The aircraft took off late at 11:08 from the "Caravaggio" airport of Bergamo-Orio al Serio towards Vilnius airport (flight X9-8242), where it landed at 14:19 local time. As soon as the aircraft landed on runway 19 in Vilnius, the plane went off the runway. The pilot then managed to bring the fixed-wing vehicle back to the asphalt and reach the landing area.
There were 179 passengers on board. There were no injuries, just a lot of fear. The incident occurred on February 3rd. However, some damage was reported to the lower panels of the plane's fuselage, covered in mud and snow. Vilnius Airport remained closed for almost three hours before restoring normal activity.
