Spain receives first NH-90 Mspt helicopter
It will enter service with six others in the Armada Española fleet by 2026
The first NH Industries NH-90 amphibious military helicopter in MSPT (Maritime Spanish Tactical Transport) version has arrived in Spain in recent days for flight tests. In total, Madrid has commissioned seven helicopters with this configuration. The rotary-wing aircraft will enter service in the Armada Española fleet by 2026, when deliveries are expected to be completed.
The aircraft was set up in the Airbus Helicopters factory in Germany, while last week it arrived at the Group's Spanish factory located in Albacete: here it will be subjected to various tests aimed at obtaining the safety certification necessary for commissioning service. Subsequently it will be assigned to the 14th Escuadrilla, at the military naval base of Rota.
This version of MSPT aircraft was ordered by Madrid in September 2018. More generally the NH-90 made its first flight in December 1995 and entered service at the end of 2006. The helicopter has an empty weight of 4200 kg, a maximum speed of 300 km/h, an average range of 900 km and five hours of flight; finally, the rotary-wing vehicle can operate at night and in adverse conditions.
