Another air strike in Germany

Hamburg airport ground assistance staff protest

Another bad day for transport in Germany. A Strike is ongoing from 3:00 tonight until 11:59 pm today, Friday 2 February 2024, at Hamburg-Fuhlsbüttel airport. The ground assistance staff working in the German airport crossed their arms. The mobilization is called by the Verdi union. The management company of Flughafen Hamburg airport reassured: limited inconvenience for passengers.

Today in Hamburg 135 departures and 132 arrivals were scheduled with over 37,000 travelers in transit. The airport operator announced in its website that around 10 take-offs and landings were canceled this morning. This mobilization comes a few hours after the end of a 24-hour maxi-strike by security workers at numerous German airports, a protest which left 200,000 passengers stranded on Thursday 1st February.

Today's mobilization involves 900 employees of the Groundstars, Stars and Cats companies. These are workers involved in aircraft loading and unloading services, supply of technical equipment, baggage handling, aircraft de-icing, internal cleaning of aircraft. The union is asking for salary increases for them (200 Euro retroactive) and anti-inflation bonuses (3000 Euro).
