Croatia: US approves sale of military helicopters
Eight "Black Hawks" could soon arrive in Zagreb
The United States has approved the potential sale to Croatia of eight UH-60M "Black Hawk" military helicopters produced by the American company Sikorsky (Lockheed Martin Group). The sale includes the supply of equipment, armaments and maintenance services. The deal has an estimated value of 462 million euros, as announced by the Washington Department of Defense.
"This proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security of the United States by enhancing the security of a NATO ally that continues to be an important force for political stability and economic progress in Europe", the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), the American government agency that deals with the sales of military equipment abroad.
The agreement between Zagreb and Washington also includes the supply of 19 General Electric T700-GE 701D engines; of 20 radio and satellite communication devices; 10 anti-missile warning systems; 20 localization systems with inertial navigation; 18 M240H machine guns. The aim of the sale is to strengthen the defense capabilities of the Atlantic Alliance along the eastern border with Russia.
