Germany sends military helicopters to Kiev
Aircraft from German inventory, due for delivery mid-2024
Germany will send six Sikorsky SH-3 "Sea King" amphibious military helicopters to Ukraine. These are aircraft coming from the German military inventory and which will be delivered starting from the second quarter of 2024. These rotorcraft should help Kiev in various maritime operations: from surveillance of the Black Sea to the transport of soldiers. This is the first supply of this kind by Germany.
"For the protection of the Ukrainian people and infrastructure, air defense continues to be the number one priority. We also need more speed with weapons production", announced German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius yesterday.
The head of the ministry announced it during a meeting of the Ukrainian Defense Contact Group, that is the coalition, created in November and led by Germany and France, made up of over 50 states and organizations involved in planning Ukraine's defense capabilities. The "Sea King" is a helicopter produced since 1960 and withdrawn by the United States in 2006, but still in service in the fleets of the armed forces of about ten countries around the world.
