The European Competition Commission, led by Margrethe Vestager, is concerned about the multiple routes on which the two wedding-ready airlines ITA Airways and Lufthansa already operate "in situations of monopoly or duopoly". Brussels also judged the transfers of some airport slots at Milan-Linate to be "insufficient". This is the reason why EU will almost certainly not bless the wedding on January 29th. 

It will be necessary, as has been reiterated several times, to wait until May 2024. In fact, rumors filtered by sources close to the dossier are multiplying, according to which Brussels deems the commitments presented by Lufthansa insufficient in order not to disturb competition in European skies. The new indications suggest a further extension of four months.
