New helicopters to Romanian Navy
They will be embarked on missile frigates
Romania has purchased two H-125M helicopters produced by the European manufacturer Airbus Helicopters for the Nationa Navy. The rotary-wing aircraft will be embarked on board the main maritime units of the Forțele Navale Române, such as the two Type 22 missile frigates "Regina Maria" and "Re Ferdinando", which can accommodate two helicopters.
The Romanian Ministry of Defense has allocated 150 million Euros for the purchase of these two new aircraft, which includes: acquisition of anti-ship missiles (around 30 million), some specific equipment, logistical support, crew training and ammunition stocks. Maintenance is entrusted by contract to the national company Iar Braşov.
The H-125M military helicopter, introduced in 1990, has an empty weight of 1220 kg. The Turbomeca Arriel 2B engine (power 632 kW) allows it to have a maximum cruising speed of 246 km/h and a range of 648 km. On board it can accommodate a crew of two people and four passengers and its armaments include anti-tank missiles and rockets.
