South Korea's EVtol is expected to be commercialized in 2028
The South Korean Hyundai Group has presented the prototype of its new air taxi model. This is an Electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing (eVtol) aircraft called S-A2 "Supernal". The concept of the vehicle was revealed at the "Consumer Electronics Show" ("Ces") 2024 technology fair in Las Vegas, United States, which was held from 9 to 12 January.
The S-A2 has an electric thruster and has eight tiltrotors. It is a "V" tail aircraft designed to cruise at 190 km per hour at an altitude of 1500 feet (about 450 meters). Initially it will operate flights on routes of length between 40 and 65 km.
These are features designed to meet typical urban transport needs. The aerospace engineering was entrusted to Supernal company while the aircraft, including the aesthetic design, was developed by Hyundai. The goal is to commercialize the plane in 2028, starting affordable production.
