Argentina: Iranian plane seized

Venezuela announces appeal to international courts to obtain return of aircraft

The Argentine judiciary today ordered the definitive seizure of the B-747/300M Dreamliner aircraft (registration YV3531) of the Venezuelan company Emtrasur. The aircraft has been stopped for over a year at the Argentine "Minister Pistarini" international airport in Buenos Aires-Ezeiza, due to a seizure request made by the United States. Buenos Aires thus responded to the request of the US Department of Justice.

The airline's aircraft landed at Ezeiza airport on June 6, 2022 and at that time the plane was blocked. For several weeks the people on board remained on the aircraft, unable to get off. This is due to two reports arriving from Washington: one concerning the "unauthorized" sale of the fixed-wing aircraft, made in the United States, by the Iranian company Mahan Air, subjected to American economic sanctions, to the Venezuelan airline; the second relating to the crew, made up in part of Iranian citizens suspected of links to terrorism.

Now the B-747 Dreamliner, as ordered by the Argentine judges, will be sent to the United States, where it will remain under the custody of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the government agency specialized in internal intelligence and crimes relating to terrorism and crime organized. Venezuela has announced an appeal to international courts to obtain the immediate return of the aircraft.
