ITA Airways: President Turicchi on his way out?
The hypothesis of postponing the marriage with Lufthansa to June 2024 is strengthened
The current president of the Italian ITA Airways, Antonino Turicchi, could leave the company by the end of this year, that is December 2023. This is what emerges from rumors filtering through the press. The reason for this exit, which could take place as early as Christmas, would be linked to the certification of the "negative" balance sheet of the Italian company.
According to what we learn, in fact, the Italian Minister of Economy and Finance (Mef) Giancarlo Giorgetti, would be considering replacing Turicchi and leaving the hot potato in the hands of a new president: it would be Gabriele Fava, current extraordinary commissioner of the former Italian flag airline Alitalia, who the Government recently also indicated as a candidate for the presidency of INPS (Italian Institute of welfare, En).
This indiscretion fuels the probability that the marriage between ITA and the German aviation group Lufthansa will be postponed to June 2024. In fact, let us remember that in addition to national problems there are international ones: despite the optimism of ITA and Lufthansa on the green light arriving from Brussels in January 2024, the European Competition Commission could postpone the decision after the European parliamentary elections, so June 2024.
