US orders Sikorsky military helicopters
Construction of aircraft solicited under contract signed in 2022
The US Army is ordering the construction of UH-60M "Black Hawk" military helicopters made by the US company Sikorsky (Lockheed Martin Group). The value of the deal amounts to 443 million dollars. These are aircraft that will be used by the US Army in missions such as tactical transport, air assault, support for ground troops and special operations, evacuation of wounded, command and control.
The request was made by the United States Army Contracting Command at Redstone Arsenal. The request is part of the contract, signed in 2022, which provides for the supply of 120 UH-60M aircraft, with an option for a further 135 rotary-wing aircraft, for a sum of 2.3 billion dollars
The UH-60 twin-engine helicopter in its first version made its maiden flight in October 1974 and entered service in October 1978. The new UH-60M variant entered production in 2006. It features T700-GE-701D engines (2000 hp power) which ensure better performance in terms of cruising and climbing speed, as well as load. It is equipped with cutting-edge rotor blades, advanced avionics and sensors, new glass cockpit.
