EasyJet: legal action against various brands

Court cases filed against some firms for use of the word "easy"

The legal actions of the owner and founder of the airline easyJet, Stelios Haji-Ioannou, continue, who in 2023 alone has filed more than a dozen court cases against some brands that use the word "easy". Various individuals, companies and companies are being sued at the high court with requests for compensation: from the music group Easy Life to the retailer Easylife which is part of the easyGroup.

"It was forcing us to change our name or enter into an expensive legal battle that we could never afford. To those who bought concert tickets and ended up on a cheap flight to Tenerife, we apologize", sarcastically commented Murray Matravers, singer of the band, sued after the publication of a poster for the "Life's a Beach" tour which depicted a drawing of the easyJet aircraft.

The British media commented negatively on Haji-Ioannou's actions: "He is convinced that he invented the word 'easy', which gives him carte blanche to prosecute anyone he wants to label a 'brand thief' and force them to abandon the own brand or to pay him an annual royalty for its use", writes "The Times" newspaper. And in the meantime, some are looking for an agreement with the entrepreneur, unless they have the money to fight in court.
