Peru: received "Sea King" military helicopters
Aircraft donated by Spain welcomed with an official ceremony
Peru welcomed with an official ceremony the six Sikorsky SH-3 "Sea King" helicopters donated by Spain last year. These multi-role aircraft are intended to significantly improve the operational capability of the Latin American country's navy. The value of the transfer of these rotary wing vehicles has been set at 600 Euros.
"This is a symbolic figure based on the clear logistical advantage it provides to the navy, offering a final destination for these aircraft. This also aims to strengthen the regular and reliable relations existing between the Spanish and Peruvian navies", said the Spanish government in a press release.
Also present at the ceremony was Peruvian President Dina Boluarte. The Latin American government should use these rotorcraft to carry out search and rescue (SAR) missions, off-shore transport of humanitarian aid and personnel, as well as for medical evacuations. They will play a crucial role on the occasion of the imminent arrival of "El Niño", the meteorological phenomenon that traditionally affects Peru with intensity.
